Half Way There

In January of this year, I decided to write one post a month that includes 10 things that I am thankful for during that month. I haven’t been checking in here as often and June just slipped away from me. While I did not post, I have so much to be thankful for each and every day of the year.

1) We recently took a short little overnight trip to get away. Our destination … mini golf. We love some mini golf! It was a cooler, sunny morning. The course was pretty empty. We had so much fun! I am so thankful that we had the opportunity to just get away from it all for a little bit!

2) I recently took my grandson to a doctor’s appointment in another town. Afterward, we went to a local park that had a free water area for kids. He had the best time! And nothing could replace the look of pure joy on his face as he experienced this for the very first time. Priceless!

3) I am thankful for the little things in life … like this little butterfly that entertained me outside of the windows while sitting in a waiting room.

4) I am thankful for creative people that place cool things in their yard for us to see.

5) I am thankful that the flowers are really blooming from all of this wonderful rain!

6) I am thankful for summer cookouts and s’mores!

7) I am thankful for wheel barrels, rakes, weed eaters, lawn mowers & all of the convenient tools that help me keep my yard in control!

8) I am thankful for the nail polish that brightens my toes in a pair of flip flops on these warm summer days.

9) With now having a bigger dog in our house, I am so very thankful that I have a shop vac. That little baby is light weight and portable & helps to keep the dog hair to a minimum!

10) I am thankful for over the counter allergy meds to help me deal with these wonderful summer allergies.

We are already halfway through this year … what do you have to be thankful for so far this year?

Photo 101: A Pop of Color

While these photos may not be the latest and greatest, it sure was a lot of fun! Maybe it was the assignment. Maybe it was the time out in the fresh air and sunshine. But, it is true, once you start looking for the pops of color … they are everywhere!

My neighbors chickens drive me crazy! It’s only 65 degrees outside and our neighborhood already smells like a barnyard. The worst is when the rooster crows at 4am and wakes me up! But, this chicken hopped up here and posed for me on the red ATV just in time. So, for today, they are off of my naughty list. I chose to frame it out with the fence and the wood post. Not sure that was a great idea in hindsight.

This next one is one of my favorite pieces of yard art. My bottle tree. The yard is still a little mushy. So, this was taken blindly from underneath the bottle tree. What I wonder is how the bottle could be so dirty with all of the rain we have had?

And last, is a succession of photos. The pop of color from my grandson’s “fire boots” (as he calls them) and us checking out the signs of Spring peeking out.

Photo 101: Nature

The flower is flawed but still just perfect.

As Spring feels a million years away, I grabbed that photo from my files. I have Spring fever … bad! I am sure that I am not alone! Our yard is still a swamp from all of the snow and then the rains. One step and you sink into the muck.

So, my indoor “nature” photo from today.

Two of my favorite things … owls and colorful flowers (even if they are of the cheap, fake, Dollar Tree variety)

The sun is just beginning to peek out briefly. Do I dare venture outdoors? I almost didn’t. But, my grandson said … “Grandma, put on your boots and let’s go jump in puddles.” So, we did. And, I was rewarded with this.

After 2 years, an owl has found my owl house. Yay! I’ve looked at photos online and cannot identify him. Does anyone know what type he / she is?

What Do I Want To Be When I Grow Up?

My youngest son and I were in the car the other day when he asked me what job I was looking for now that I was out of nursing. I said that I just really don’t know. He then asked me what would make me happy.

Now that’s a loaded question!

So, I went on to reiterate what his Dad has said to me …

After driving 50 minutes for the past 13 years, he wants me to stay closer to home. He doesn’t want to worry about me during storms, snow & fog. (I can’t argue with that! A closer drive would be awesome. But limits my options greatly!)

He wants me to find a job that I love to do. (Well, so do I!)

But, I still need to be able to pay my car payment, etc. (Duh!)

So, he asked me again. Well what would you love to do? So, I started naming off what I love …

and how I would love to learn wood working.

My son, who is wise beyond his years stated matter of fact … Those are hobbies. You do those in your spare time. Now what job do you want to do?

How do you turn hobbies into a job? I know people do it. But, my work is so / so. Nothing unique. Hmm!?!

Welcome Spring

Took this in our front yard a couple days ago. So nice for the sun to be shining and the breeze to be warm.

Welcome Spring!
