My middle son has been scouring ads online for Labra doodles for a while. First, because he loves labs but mostly because they are very low shed if you get one that has been bred with a poodle. And, who wouldn’t want to have a dog that looks like a lion? Oh my!
But, the more and more that he thought about it, he could not justify it in his mind to get a breeder’s puppy when so many doggies are sitting in our local shelters just waiting for a home.
Off on an adventure we went. Little did we know, our local animal shelter had a spread of distemper and we could only see a few of the outside dogs. So sad for those animals! And another of our local no kill rescues was closed for “deep cleaning.”
On a whim, we travelled to the next town over to go to the Petco adoption event. You guessed it … no event today.
We were off to a booming start. But, we are persistent!
Luckily, the employees at Petco pointed us to their town’s new animal shelter & we found a shelter full of dogs & cats. Literally, no room in the inn! Tons of sweet doggies just begging to be adopted! It was hard to decide. But, as he visited with this sweet little girl, he knew she was the one!
Love at first site!
We actually had to wait to talk to the counselor because they were busy with other’s going through the adoption process. It was a good day at the shelter!
Sophie came home with us. A 1 year old black / brown lab. She is a sweetie. Gentle. Housebroken. Spayed.
