Our new adopted puppy, Foxy

We decided about a week ago to add to our family with a new indoor puppy. After checking pet stores and online classifieds, we decided to adopt one from the humane society or an animal rescue. My youngest son was so excited. Everyday we spent time checking out the dogs at the different rescues online. We decided to attend the pet adoption event scheduled for Saturday by Wags and Whiskers ( By Tuesday, we had spotted a puppy that we were really drawn to online – Pepper, a 5 month old chihuahua mix. I tried to speak positively of Pepper. She was so adorable, petitie, etc. But, I also tried to remind my son that you cannot tell a pet’s personality by a photo. I wanted him to know that if she was not the right fit, we would have to keep looking. This did not deter him! Saturday morning came and he was so anxious to get there. He did not want anyone to get Pepper before we could see her. He insisted we leave a full hour prior to the event even though it wasn’t even a 10 minute drive. We stalled by hitting the mall for a few minutes, still arriving at the event at 9:20. We could hear the doggies barking, so we went on up to see the animals. Pepper wasn’t in her cage. My son panicked. But, all was well! She was being carried by her foster mom. When we saw her, it was love at first sight!  What a sweetie she was! So, we adopted her!

She spent her first day here snuggling us on the couch and in our laps, alternated with potty breaks outside. (Her foster Mom said she did not even try to housebreak her at all). She was very scared of the males in the house, but that did not stop them from loving on her. We also renamed her Foxy (because we think she looks like a little fox

By the next morning, she had decided we were all ok. She became such the adventurer!

She looks on as Max plays with her new stuffed bone …..

She has also been doing excellent on her potty training! No accidents at all for now! She is so smart, cuddly and perfect! Now, she lays sleeping next to me on the couch, all tuckered out from her day.

We are very glad to have found her! Thanks Wags and Whiskers!

PS We bought her those little cutsie outfits. So, more photos to come later. Call yourself forwarned! haha!

AND if anyone has a clue what the “mix” is that she may be, we would love to know! I have searched the intenet and still have no clue and our vet visit isn’t until the 27th.

About nonnymoose2014

I have recently retired from the healthcare field, nursing. As I try to figure out what I want to be when I grow up, this seemed like the perfect time to try my hand at blogging again. In the past, my success (or lack thereof) I believe hinged on my fear of revealing too much about myself. I have a desire to “put it all out there” BUT I want to do it on my own terms … anonymously! Thus came Nonny Moose.

We too adopted a little chihuahua mix that had been rescued from a shelter that euthanizes dogs in California. Our son and daughter-in-law had offered to foster her for until the resuer was able to place her in a home. Well, she came to our home after we met her. Her name was Ava, but we changed her name to Foxy because we thought she looked like a little fox. Her markings are similar to your Foxy, but her color is darker — very pretty colors. Her tail curls up over her back. We know she’s chihuahua, but not sure what her other half is. We think it is Jack Russell Terrier.

She’s very affectionate and is good with our grandchildren. She’s friendly to new acquaintances. She loves to cuddle and snuggle up close. She’s smart and has been easy to train, and tries to please.

We love her and wouldn’t trade her for any other dog.

  2. Jeanine, Your Foxy sounds so much like ours! I laughed the other day as we were out for a walk. As she ventured around with her little harness and leash on, I said she looks like a sled dog, only miniature! 🙂 Thank you for sharing your story!
